We flew from San Francisco to Quito Ecuador. Quito is about 9500 feet elevation and has very steep streets. Not being used to the elevation made walking about difficult. By bus we visited several small towns in Ecuador. Our favorite city in Ecuador is Cuenca. The highways and roads are mostly well made and safe though a few places we felt uncomfortable looking down into some deep canyons. A couple of odd things about Ecuador. They use United States currency as their official money. We needed to get Yellow fever shots and they wanted $400.00 each for them here in the US. We got for free in Ecuador. When we came back from the Galapagos we flew into Guayaquil which is the largest city in Ecuador. We planned on flying from there to Lima Peru but since we had not made reservations we had to take a bus 3 days later. The bus ride was 29 hours and actually ended up being a lot of fun.
